The only thing that could stop Peyton Czarapata in the first half was foul trouble. Bonduel High School’s 6-foot-5 center had 18 points in the opening seven minutes, despite picking up two fouls, and finished with 29 points as Bonduel beat Suring 70-59 in a nonconference boys basketball game Tuesday. “He’s a big guy and we go to him a lot,” Bonduel coach Duke Copp said.

The short-handed Shawano Community High School girls basketball team did everything it needed to down the stretch Tuesday to secure a victory over the visiting Bonduel Bears. Trailing by 9 points in the middle of the second half when sophomore Brandi Gueths fouled out, the Hawks were down to only seven players but used an 11-0 run over two minutes to take control of the game for a 66-54 victory. The best revenge is to live well, and to that end the future Hall of Fame quarterback who everyone said was finished came through in a big game and now looks to win his second Super Bowl ring. The story line works fine, but it would play a lot nicer around here if the names were tweaked a bit. It will be Denver’s Peyton Manning, and not Aaron Rodgers, trying to guide his team to a win in Super Bowl 50.

It took a little convincing before Bennett Gunderson decided to try wrestling in first grade. Gunderson said a little push from his mother and his best friend, Garrett Siolka, convinced him to give the sport a try. It turned out to be a good choice. Gunderson, now a senior at Bonduel High School, last week surpassed the 100-win mark for his career — the 24th wrestler to achieve that milestone in the school’s illustrious wrestling history.

Pulaski will celebrate Casimir Pulaski Week with a street dedication, contests, sales and plenty of polka music from March 7-13. Pulaski is named in honor of Casimir Pulaski, a Polish nobleman and military commander who played a key role in the Americans’ victory in the Revolutionary War. On March 7, the village will dedicate Casimir Street with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Ordination and installation of Dean Suehring into the Office of the Holy Ministry will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Grant. Suehring will serve as pastor of Immanuel Lutheran and St. John Lutheran. Suehring is a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran, where he has served as their organist for the past 15 years, as well as elder and Sunday school teacher.

Students at Bowler Elementary are taking steps to benefit the American Red Cross through a friendly competition. Grades are competing in a Change War, which began Jan. 8 and continues through Feb. 8. The event is being coordinated by the school’s Cub Government. The objective is to be the class that raises the most funds by the deadline. The winning class will receive an ice cream party.
