New elected officials to get salary boost

The next people to be elected Shawano County sheriff, clerk of courts and coroner will see a significant boost in pay compared to what those officials are making today.

Supervisors on the executive committee voted to increase the salaries to be more in line with comparable counties. By law, they must set salaries now for the next four-year term for sheriff, clerk of courts and coroner.

Ice shanty removal deadlines approaching

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reminds anglers that ice shanty removal deadlines are approaching.

Permanent ice shanties, or those not removed daily, must be removed from all state waters by these specific dates:

• Wisconsin-Iowa boundary waters on or before Feb. 20.

• Wisconsin-Minnesota boundary waters on or before March 1.

• Inland waters south of Highway 64 on or before March 8.

Farmers market director gives city report

A main cornerstone of Shawano’s summertime activity is the farmers market put on by the FRESH Project, and the Shawano Park and Recreation Commission discovered Feb. 18 that it is really attracting people to come out Saturday mornings.
