Plans to shorten Shawano Speedway moving ahead

There are only two ways to turn a deficit into a profit — either increase revenue or decrease expenses.

The decrease in expenses is the route being explored by the Shawano Area Agricultural Society in its proposal to shorten the Shawano Speedway from a half-mile to three-eighths of a mile.

Shawano County making plans for reserve judge

Shawano County officials have not been quiet in their talk about needing a third judge to handle the caseload at the courthouse.

All that talk may be about to pay off — at least a bit.

Ethan Schmidt, the county clerk of courts, said a court-required recording system will be installed in the County Board Room in the courthouse later this month for use by a judge.
