Northern lights fill sky

The northern lights (aurora borealis) dominated the night sky Nov. 12 over Poplar Road in the Town of Richmond. Auroras display dynamic patterns of radiant light that appear as curtains, rays, spirals or dynamic flickers covering the entire sky.

 

ATV/UTV ordinance revisions approved

New rules are in place for all-terrain vehicles and utility-terrain vehicles in the city of Shawano, although the Shawano Common Council was split on the changes.

Cloud sentenced to 30 years in ‘brutal beating’ case

Nee Gee Cloud was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the attack of his then-girlfriend in 2024.

Cloud, 33, was sentenced in federal court Nov. 10 to the maximum possible sentence for what United States District Court Judge William Griesbach described as a “brutal beating” of Cloud’s then-girlfriend Sept. 20, 2024.

He was convicted by a federal jury Aug. 6 of burglary and assault with intent to murder.

4 groups get $50K in Mielke foundation funds

The Mielke Family Foundation handed out $50,000 in grant money Nov. 12 to four local organizations as part of its fall campaign of giving.

Safe Haven received the biggest award, $25,000, which will go toward replacing its outdoor play area through the Rebuilding Through Play project, according to Alona Boots, donor services specialist for the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.

Veterans take center stage at Ho-Chunk ceremony

Thank you for your service.

That is the gist of Jamie Awanohopay’s keynote address Nov. 11 at a Veterans Day ceremony at Ho-Chunk Gaming Wittenberg, which included a flag-raising ceremony, 21-gun salute and a performance of the Ho-Chunk Flag Song by the Lake Delton Singers.
