NFL player shares smiles and advice at Abrams Elementary

Alec Ingold has accomplished what very few people in northeast Wisconsin have — being a fullback in the National Football League.

Ingold paid a visit April 9 to Abrams Elementary School to let students know that they can have their dreams come true, too, as long as they have a good attitude and work hard. A smile also goes a long way, he said.

Oconto Falls updating electric distribution systems

Oconto Falls Municipal Utilities will replace its outdated electric distribution system with modern facilities that have three time its present capacity.

“It’s aging and is ready to be replaced,” Beth Rank, interim manager, said April 9.

The Public Service Commission approved the project the same day.

Defense: Victim will prove Ingold innocent of murder

One of the attorneys for Michael Ingold, a Shawano man accused of killing his girlfriend, Sheila Laudon, in June 2022, made his opening statement April 10, and he noted that Laudon’s story is going to be front and center through various witnesses.

Albert Moustakis said that medical experts, neighbors and others would vindicate his client and lead to a not-guilty verdict by the jury by the time the trial ends on April 30.

Man, 25, charged in UTV fatal crash

A 25-year-old Little Suamicao man is charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle as a result of a crash that killed a 48-year-old man also from Little Suamico.

Elijah Schanau faces up to 25 years in prison, a fine of $100,000 or both as a result of the April 5 crash.

Panel urged not to forget about library needs

Last month, Shawano County supervisors approved a maximum of $121 million that could be borrowed to build a new courthouse, jail housing pod and jail auxiliary services.

While the construction of a new public library was not part of the building plan, some supervisors urged their colleagues not to forget about the needs of the library, housed at 128 S. Sawyer St.

Humane society to host slumber ‘pawty’

What’s it like to live in a pet shelter?

Volunteers with the Shawano County Humane Society are joining others from around the country April 18 for a Shelter Slumber Pawty to raise awareness for the shelter.

For 24 hours, they will experience shelter life firsthand and raise funds for animals in need. Every donation helps provide food, medical care and a second chance for homeless pets.

No Mow May now permanent in Shawano

A program set up four years ago to help with pollinators is now a permanent part of the city of Shawano after the Shawano Common Council voted April 8 to hold No Mow May indefinitely.
