Work on state Highway 47, from the Outagamie County line to state Highway 29 in the Town of Lessor, Bonduel and Town of Hartland is scheduled to begin April 10. Northeast Asphalt Inc. is the prime contractor for the $3.2 million project.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources encourages the public to explore Wisconsin with a Natural Resources Foundation (NRF) field trip. The NRF is a nonprofit that protects the state’s lands, waters and wildlife and connects people with nature. This year is the 31st season of NRF field trips, and 275 trips are scheduled from April through early November.

Snowfall of more than six inches and up to a foot in some areas combined with 50 mph winds contributed to a white mess across the Shawano County area April 2-3. Richard Timothy Wegner, 76, was called to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 1, 2024, at 7:05 a.m. at Birch Hill Nursing home in Shawano. He was born on Sept. 9, 1947, in Sheboygan, to his parents, the Rev. Mark and Gladys (Koeppe) Wegner. He was the third oldest of four children, Jaqueline, Lois and John.

Ruth Anna Herrema TenHaken, born Sept. 17, 1928, in the Town of Ringle, daughter of Richard Herrema and Anna Hettinga Herrema, passed into the hands of our Lord Jesus Christ on March 20, 2024. She was married to Victor W. TenHaken for 70 years, until his death in 2017. She is survived by her children, Randall K. Ten Haken (Babette), Ann Arbor, Michigan, Vicki Ruth TenHaken (John Meshkin), Holland, Michigan, John W.

The new Shawano County Board has taken shape, following the April 2 voting results, according to the Shawano County Clerk’s Office. District 4 incumbent Kimberly Leffel defeated challenger Blake Hampton 91-56. Redistricting put two incumbents against each other in the new District 7.
