Many men lost their wives to the rigors of labor and delivery, and if a woman survived the ordeal, her child could easily fall victim to a fatal illness or accident. My great-great-grandmother Anna Maria Holzschuh was very familiar with the Grim Reaper’s cruel customs.

Dejon Lou (Goddake) Polzin, 92, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at Care Partners Assisted Living in Clintonville, where she had resided for nearly four years. Born in Bowler on June 13, 1932, Dejon was the youngest child of the late Evan and Gladys (Cronce) Goddake. She attended Bowler schools and was very involved in school and community activities, including 4-H and Future Homemakers of America.

Sept. 5 Pulaski 1, Hortonville 0 Pulaski scored one goal 22 minutes into the first half, and that was all that mattered in the 1-0 non-conference win over Hortonville. Maddox McKeefry scored on an assist from Nolan Pratt. The game was called at the start of the second half due to severe weather. By rule, since one half was completed, the result became official.
