AARP seeks volunteers for tax prep work

Tax filing season may be months away, but AARP Foundation Tax-Aide sites in cities across Wisconsin are already seeking volunteers who want to serve their community by becoming tax preparers for the program. Tax-Aide focuses on serving older adults with low to moderate income and helps them secure tax refunds, according to Tax-Aide Prospective Volunteer Specialist Richard Blackburn.
DMV still available to provide voter identification
Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is reminding citizens to check and be sure that they have the proper identification needed to vote in the Nov. 5 election. Wisconsin driver licenses or IDs are the most common form of identification used for voting purposes. A federally compliant REAL ID card is not required to show at the polls.

Jean Lockstein, 71, Gillett, died Sunday morning, Oct. 20, 2024, at a Shawano health care facility. She was born Jan. 14, 1953, in Marinette to Lawrence and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Stujenske. Jean grew up in Marinette and Green Bay, graduating from Bay Port High School. On July 20, 1974, she married John Lockstein at St. John the Baptist Church in Howard.
Terry Jones
Terry Lynn Jones (Mehlhorn), 63, of the Town of Belle Plaine, lost her over seven-year battle with multiple cancers on Oct. 12, 2024, in her home surrounded by her family. She was born on Sept. 25, 1961, the eldest daughter of Cecil (Uttendorfer) and the late Lavellen Mehlhorn in Shawano.
Tom Konitzer
Tim Konitzer, 69, Freedom, died early Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at a Green Bay hospital, following an acute illness. He was born Jan. 28, 1955, in Green Bay to Marcel and Marie (Vorron) Konitzer Sr. On Dec. 7, 1974, he married Deb Siebers in Kaukauna, and they had two children. Neopit man arrested for assault, burglary
A Neopit man who allegedly foot stomped the head and neck of a woman he was living with was indicted Oct. 23 in federal court with two counts of assault and one count of burglary. Court documents alleged that Nee Gee J. Cloud, 31, rendered the woman unconscious by stomping on her head and neck, punching her repeatedly on the head, kicking her torso and slamming her head onto the floor. Pulaski advances to soccer regional championship game
Oct. 22 Pulaski 5, Green Bay Southwest 0 The fourth-seeded Red Raiders took down the 13th-seeded Trojans in first-round playoff action of the boys soccer state tournament. Pulaski (14-3-3) got goals in the fourth and eighth minutes to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Hudson Schultz and Maddox McKeefry got the goals.
Tigerton wins volleyball regional match in 5 games
Oct. 22 Tigerton 3, Stockbridge 2 Tigerton trailed Stockbridge 2-0 but came back from behind to win 3-2 and advance to the next round of Division 5 playoff action. Stockbridge claimed 27-25 and 25-15 victories and needed just one more win to advance. Tigerton saw it differently; the Tigers needed three straight wins to come from behind and win.
Gretzinger to speak at Veterans Day ceremony
The Allied Vets Council will hold a Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Shawano County Courthouse, 311 N. Main St. The ceremony will begin with the sounding of the bells and fire whistle. Kwik Trip employees foil robbery attempt
Shawano Kwik Trip employees detained a woman taking money out of the cash register at the convenience store in the early morning hours of Oct. 23. According to a statement from Capt. Shane Stange of the Shawano Police Department, the incident happened at at 2:28 a.m. at the store at 1241 E. Green Bay St. The woman was wearing a disguise and was handcuffed by Shawano County sheriff’s deputies who were the first to arrive on the scene.
