Mary K. Sawicki, 60, of rural Tigerton, passed away Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident close to her home. The former Mary Kay McGraw was born in Appleton to John and Cele (Steinhauer) McGraw. She was raised in the Leopolis area and graduated from Marion High School in 1972.

It wasn’t the way Al Tomow drew it up. The Shawano Community High School football team lost to Bay Conference foe Hortonville 52-0 in Tomow’s debut as head coach Friday at the school. “I’m disappointed it got away from us a little quicker than we were expecting,” Tomow said.

Guy D. Crowe, 63, of Keshena, began his journey to the spirit world on Thursday evening, Aug. 22, 2013. Guy was born Jan. 28, 1950, in Keshena, a son of the late Albert P. Sr. and Evelyn (Teller) Crowe (Kaquatosh). Guy lived and worked in Milwaukee for several years before returning to the Menominee Reservation. When he moved back, he was employed at the tribal offices in the maintenance department.

This past week has been so filled with comings and goings, that I didn’t know what to write about this week. After hearing about an accident due to the fact that someone was passing when they shouldn’t have, and the person driving the oncoming car was killed. I couldn’t help but think about all of the times I have had to avoid vehicles in similar situations. People seem to pass whenever they want, whether it is in a no passing zone or not.

I try not to think ahead, but it’s human nature, I guess. The close-at-hand start of the new school year always leaves me feeling schmaltzy.
