The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection is accepting nominations for eight seats on the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin board of directors.
Mark A. Guelig, 69, Oconto Falls, formerly of Farmington, Minnesota, died of unexpected health complications on March 4, 2025.
Mark grew up on a dairy farm in the Town of Stiles and was a graduate of the Lena High School class of 1973. He thoroughly enjoyed keeping up with his classmates and attending class reunions.
Mark was a beloved partner to Trish Martin, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
The Shawano County Highway Department has announced the seasonal posting of spring weight limits on various county roads.

A state appeals court last week struck down as unconstitutional a state statute establishing a college scholarship program for minority students attending private and technical colleges.

The Gillett City Council on March 6 approved a resolution designed to help advance grant applications for a new playground and other improvements at Zippel Park.
Fundraising activities have been underway for about a year toward a $1.5 million plan to build an inclusive play area, walking trails and paths, ADA signage and picnic/seating areas, along with improvements to the sports courts.

A driver for JWC Trucking in Gillett who has raised money to help veterans and law officers across the country wants to stage an event to honor them this summer.
Dennis Schulze told the Gillett City Council on March 6 that he lost his right leg in a trucking accident 12 years ago.
“I decided to get my wheelchair and go across America backwards for our veterans and the people who saved my life,” Schulze said. “I’ve thrown out first pitches.

The Bay Area Ice Bears got revenge on the Central Wisconsin Storm, shutting them out 8-0 for the state championship after the Storm topped them 4-3 in 2024.

The Hawks played an even first half, but Rice Lake pulled away after the break to win the Division 2 sectional title game 54-46.
The teams were tied at 29-29 at the break, with Rice Lake pulling ahead with a 25-17 second half score.
