Two write-in candidates were successful in their run for Gillett alderperson. Marie Blaser, Ward 1, and Terry Nelson, Ward 2, were elected on April 1. Incumbent Tod Anderson, who declined to run again, received 12 votes in Ward 2. Nanette Mohr will return to represent Ward 3. Mayor Irene Drake will return for a second term as mayor.

Four new supervisors will join the 31-member County Board at its reorganizational meeting Tuesday. The April 1 election resulted in the defeat of one incumbent. Vernon Zoeller lost his seat to Joyce Stoegbauer 67-43 in District 8, which covers parts of Abrams and Pensaukee.

An 18-year veteran of the Gillett School Board was unseated, and incumbents in Oconto and Oconto Falls also were defeated in the April 1 election. Nanette Mohr earned 176 votes in the Gillett School Board election, ranking her last of four candidates on the ballot.

Former Shawano Police Chief Mark Kohl will return to the position on May 1. Kohl was chosen by the Police and Fire Commission after a closed session Monday from among 12 applicants to replace Ed Whealon, who retired Friday. It’s spring! No, really! All the signs are here: robins pecking at my lawn, ponds of water in the corn fields, bunny cookies in the bakery, Easter baskets and candy on display, and bright summer clothing on sale. I visited my friend Phyllis on County Road I, southeast of Clintonville, and along the way I saw a lady hanging Easter eggs on a small tree in her yard.

After so long from their home in Shawano, a person misses more than a doughnut from Bult’s, swimming at “the Rock,” dinner at the Spinning Wheel or getting to pick from any Lutheran church imaginable.
