A late rally and some solid defense gave the Bonduel High School softball team its second Central Wisconsin Conference-8 win of the season Thursday, a 9-7 road victory over Weyauwega-Fremont. With the win, the Bears (2-1, 2-1 CWC-8) have exceeded last year’s 1-6 conference mark only three games into the season. Twenty-six years ago, Mike Shulze was recruited to help teach a hunter safety class. He’s been at it ever since. Lloyd Heinz, who worked for the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department, recruited Shulze as an assistant in 1988.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reports the Wolf River is five degrees from reaching prime temperatures for sturgeon spawning. “Water has to be at least in the mid 50s before they start spawning and it is 45 degrees at the Wolf River,” DNR biologist Ryan Koenigs said this week. Koenigs anticipates sturgeon could begin spawning as early as Saturday, but the annual journey up the Wolf could be delayed if river temperatures do not rise

Robert A. Hoeffs, 80, of Bonduel, died on Friday, April 18, 2014, with his family by his side. Born on April 28, 1933, in Bonduel, he was the son of the late Arnold and Ruth (Lauersdorf) Hoeffs. Following Robert’s graduation from the Bonduel High School in 1951, he proudly served in the U.S.

Connie P. Spiering, 62, of Shawano, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at her home. Born on May 13, 1951, in New London, she was the daughter of the late Truman and Lucy (Heffs) Shelley. Connie worked as a nurse’s aide for many years. She was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing as well as camping. On Sept. 6, 2003, she was united in marriage to Daniel Spiering in Oshkosh.
