State has surprising history of POW camps
Back when I was still teaching at Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, I would sometimes have my freshman English classes read a neat little novel called “The Summer of My German Soldier” by Bette Greene. It’s a historical novel that addresses the issues of love, prejudice and self-worth.
The protagonist, Patty Bergen, is a 13-year-old who lives in Jenkinsville, Arkansas, during World War II.
