The Shawano County Finance Committee this week shot down an idea to use forfeited bail bond money for courthouse security projects. The resolution, which recommended taking $37,600 from the Maintenance Department budget and an estimated $9,800 to $17,000 annually from forfeited bonds in the future for the new fund, is not dead, though. The Gillett Library will hold a community brainstorming session to discuss the new community center/community square project. The session begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, in the former BMO Harris Bank building, 204 E. Main St., Gillett. The library purchased the bank with plans to create a community center and transform the outdoor space around both buildings into a community square.
