Roman R. Sarwas
Roman R. Sarwas, 96, of Wittenberg, and formerly of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at Homme Home in Wittenberg. Roman Richard Sarwas was born on Sept. 29, 1917, in Milwaukee to the late Maksim “Mike” and Victoria (Jermusik) Sarwas. In 1937 he graduated from West Milwaukee High School and then completed Wisconsin Business College in Milwaukee. Roman was united in marriage on Aug. 19, 1940, to Edith I. Sorensen in Milwaukee.

‘Weed police’ need some support

Auto theft fugitive remains at large
A Leopolis man still on the run after a weekend crime spree earlier this month is facing a new charge of burglary. Calvin K. Ossmann, 26, is accused of breaking into a residence in Pella during the early morning hours of Aug.
Truck theft suspect found in barn
A Leopolis man who evaded authorities for nearly three weeks after a weekend crime spree earlier this month was arrested Thursday night in the town of Richmond. Calvin K. Ossmann, 26, was taken into custody around 6:30 p.m. after authorities got a tip that he was hiding in a barn. Ossmann has been charged in a string of alleged crimes over the course of Aug. 1-3 , including three counts of vehicle theft and fleeing an officer.
Kids paint mural as birthday project
To remember her 15th birthday, all Savannah Johnson has to do is go past The South Forty on South Main Street in Shawano. On Aug. 9, Johnson and several of her friends painted a mural titled “A New Day” by Romero Britto on one of the walls. Savannah’s mother, Magda Johnson, tries to think of something different and positive for her children’s birthday parties. “We usually try to find something to entertain the youth,” Johnson said.
John David Swanke
John D. Swanke, 74, of Shawano, passed away on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, in Appleton. Born on July 13, 1940, in Tigerton, he was the son of the late John S. and Gladys (Topp) Swanke and his stepfather, the late Francis W. Thompson. On Nov. 6, 1965, John was united in marriage to Jane Way in Tigerton.
