Panthers outwrestles L-C for Bay title

Oconto Falls High School has wrested the Bay Conference wrestling title from Luxemburg-Casco. In a battle of unbeatens Thursday in Oconto Falls, the Panthers prevailed at home, 39-27, to claim their first title since 2010.
Winners announced for Kelly Lake fishing derby
The Kelly Lake Sportsman’s Club held its annual ice fishing derby Jan. 10 at Kelly Lake. Fishermen, derby participants and club volunteers braved bone-chilling temperatures to make the derby a success. It was minus 11 degrees with 20 mph winds when the club volunteers fired up six furnaces to heat the derby tent.
Finnegan Lake Walleye Club to hold fishing derby
The Finnegan Lake Walleye Club will hold its annual fishing derby Feb. 28. The club will register fish from area lakes at its derby headquarters, the heated Oconto County Fair pavilion at Zippel Park in Gillett. Prizes will be awarded for the largest northern, walleye, bass, crappie, perch and bluegill.
Menominee offer to pay for Bucks arena
The Menominee Nation tried a new tack Tuesday in their push for a new casino in Kenosha, telling Gov. Scott Walker they’ll pay the state’s contribution toward a new Milwaukee Bucks arena if he reverses course and approves their project. Walker has the final say on the $800 million project.

2 arrested after armed dispute in Wittenberg
Two men were taken into custody Monday morning after an armed dispute in the village of Wittenberg. The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department said the two men — ages 32 and 59, both of Stacy, Minnesota — had traveled to a residence on Mission Street over a custody-and-care issue involving a teenage relative. Weapons were displayed, however no shots were fired during the incident. Both men were armed and allegedly threatened violence.
Bonduel girls make short work of Oconto Falls

Armed robbery attempt reported in Shawano
Shawano police are investigating an attempted armed robbery that took place Friday night, according to a police report. People’s Express East, 1206 E. Green Bay St., reported the incident shortly after 8 p.m. According to the report, a man entered the store about 8:14 p.m. carrying a 4-inch folding knife.
