Park plans move forward

City officials Wednesday adopted final plans for the development of Franklin Park and Spirit of Shawano Park, with money also approved to put the Spirit of Shawano plans into action first. “It’s more of a streetscape renovation project,” Park and Recreation Director Matt Hendricks said of the Spirit of Shawano Park project. State legislator crafting controversial ‘ag-gag’ bill
A state legislator is planning to introduce a bill that would force anyone who videotapes or photographs incidents of animal abuse on a Wisconsin farm to report it to law enforcement authorities or face a fine. Animal rights groups are vowing to fight what they are calling an “ag gag” that Rep. Lee Nerison, R-Westby, plans to introduce.

Third-party info led to accusations against police chief
A Gillett couple who implicated the city’s police chief in a domestic incident relied on second-hand information and a hunch for the basis of their accusations. Howard Smith said conversations with the sister of Chief Jess Keplinger’s ex-girlfriend caused him and his wife, Mary, to believe the ex-girlfriend might have been verbally abused.

Relay for Life seeks area volunteers
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is seeking volunteers who would like to make a difference in the Shawano area by helping plan the local event. Volunteers are needed to help organize and recruit fundraising teams, garner community support, coordinate logistics, seek refreshments and prizes, plan entertainment and lend a hand to ensure the success of the event March 28 at Shawano Community High School, 220 County Road B, Shawano.

Lois Jean Rosnow Rupple
Lois Jean “Roz” Rosnow Rupple, 86, of Santa Rosa, California, and Shawano, passed away on Jan. 9, 2015, in Santa Rosa. Roz was born on Dec. 5, 1928, the daughter of the late Arthur and Dolores (Samp) Rosnow. She graduated from Shawano High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Roz was united in marriage to John Rupple on Jan. 13, 1999, in Santa Rosa.

Carl F. Radtke
Carl F. Radtke, 82, of Bonduel, passed peacefully on Feb. 9, 2015, surrounded by his family at Appleton Medical Center, from complications due to an infection. He was born in Appleton on Nov. 15, 1932, the only child of the late Carl Henry and Mabel (Koehnke) Radtke. Carl was united in marriage to Mary L. Reinhardt on Aug. 2, 1962, in Waukegan, Illinois.

Betty Jane Herlache
On Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, our mom, Betty J. Herlache, received her heavenly wings and started her journey to be reunited with her beloved husband, Clayton Herlache, her son, Clayton “C.J.” Herlache Junior, and grandson, Jason David Klaus, as well as several other family members and friends. Mom was born on Aug. 10, 1923, to the late Harry and Martha (Doepke) Liesch in Green Bay. In 1930, her parents built their home in northeast Green Bay.
