Sometimes between Saturday night and Sunday morning, we are going to lose one hour of sleep, the so-called “daylight saving time.” I can remember when that was first put into being. My city uncle was in favor of it, because it meant he would have more time for fun things in the daylight hours after work.

I wholeheartedly believe the statement: “If you don’t move it, you lose it.” If we do not exercise or move our bodies, our muscles can weaken and, in time, deteriorate. Not only for my benefit, but to glorify God, have I wanted to remain as active as I possibly can for as long as I possibly can, especially after the cows are gone. Of course, a person can overdo it, too. The other day I helped my husband in the barn before breakfast, as usual.

Diane Krueger has been a member of the Women in the Outdoors for 17 years. A Caroline native, Krueger graduated from Marion High School. She was in 4-H and then a swine and summer program leader for the Caroline Aces 4-H Club. Krueger was on the state board of the Wisconsin Pork Producers. She is a charter member of the Marion Lioness, where she is past president and current membership chair. Last year she received the Lioness of the Year award.

Boy Scout troops in Shawano County will get help from the Bonduel and Shawano Community Friends of Scouting Fundraising Campaign that kicked off Feb. 26, at Angie’s Main Café in Shawano. “I have a soft spot for Scouting and its wonderful programs,” said Dale Vannes, chairperson of the local campaign. He was joined by around 20 people who represented businesses in Shawano that pledged their monetary support.

Closing the city’s outdoor pool and recreation center would help give Clintonville the savings it needs to balance this year’s budget, according to Interim City Administrator Chuck Kell. Kell this week presented to the finance committee three budget scenarios to address the $176,000 needed to fund the budget without tapping the city’s fund balance.

Child sexual assault A Shawano man is facing a felony charges of having sexual contact with a minor and intimidating her to keep her from reporting the alleged offense to police. Matthew C. Malone, 31, is accused of having sexual contact with a 10-year-old girl in December.

Cleo A. Holewinski, 87, of Shawano, formerly of Green Bay, passed away Wednesday evening, March 4, 2015, at ManorCare of Shawano, where she had been a resident for the past three years. Cleo was born May 26, 1927, in Green Bay, a daughter of the late Daniel and Anna (Marto) Nelson. She attended school in Green Bay.
