The sixth-grade earth science class is completing its study of volcanoes. During the unit the students had to build a model volcano that could erupt. There were many concoctions and mixtures thought up to demonstrate a volcanic eruption, including fire extinguishers, “elephant toothpaste,” Mentos and Coke, and baking soda with vinegar. One student built a wide and gently sloping shield volcano like the ones in Hawaii.
