ThedaCare opened its new Shawano hospital Wednesday with an invitation for residents to visit the $52 million facility for healing, gathering or learning. “Today is a time for celebration,” hospital Chief Executive Officer Dorothy Erdmann told a crowd of several hundred outside the new ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano. “Our new, very special place is ready for you,” Erdmann said.

The Oconto Falls City Council on Sept. 8 appointed Christos Anastasopoulos as the new utility commissioner for the city. Anastasopoulos will serve the four years remaining of the five-year term vacated by Paul Mogged, who resigned Aug.

The Oconto County Times Herald has moved its offices from 323 W. Highland Drive to the McClure and Associates Insurance building, 420 N. Chestnut Ave., Suite C, Oconto Falls. A new roof will soon top the Oconto Falls Community Library after the City Council gave the thumbs up to move forward with the project Sept. 8, largely due to financial support from local manufacturer ST Paper. “We’ve been going back and forth regarding the library roof for quite a while,” City Administrator Vicki Roberts said. The project has been on the finance committee’s agenda for the last two or three years.

A chemistry teacher at Oconto Falls High School has been named a finalist for one of the nation’s highest honors for mathematics and science teachers.
