BOYS SOCCER Shawano falls to Seymour Jacob Moesch and Cole Nelson each scored in the first half for Shawano, but Seymour responded with quick goals each time en route to a 5-2 victory over the host Hawks. Manny Morel recorded 12 saves Tuesday, while Tyrell Hesse added one save for Shawano. Jacob Dickmann and Kyle Easter each had assists for the Hawks (2-5, 0-2 Bay Conference). Bears fall in 5-set thriller
When the Bonduel High School girls volleyball team’s game with Weyauwega-Fremont went down to the wire Tuesday, Hayley Pues was there to leave her mark. After spraining her ankle in the middle of the first game, Pues returned just 10 points later and went on to lead her team in kills (13) and solo blocks (seven).

Pack’s Barrington out for the year
The Green Bay Packers have placed Sam Barrington on season-ending injured reserve after the starting inside linebacker left the opener against Chicago with a foot injury. Defensive end Datone Jones was activated on Tuesday to replace Barrington on the roster. Jones served a one-game suspension for a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. Barrington was seen in the locker room with a boot on his right foot.

Betty F. Simons
Betty F. Simons, 95, passed away on Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Park View Health Center. Betty was born on Jan. 21, 1920, in Oshkosh, to the late Eric Gahr and Stella (Bruce) McRae. On April 24, 1954, she was united in marriage to Roy W. Simons. In 1972, Betty and Roy moved to Shawano, where Betty would eventually start her own business making draperies.

Extra work pays off quickly for Jones
Late on an occasional weeknight at Lambeau Field, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy will run into James Jones getting in extra work in the weight room or training room. McCarthy has called the veteran a “sneaky preparation guy” for the time he quietly puts in behind the scenes. It all pays off on Sundays. Back with the Packers after a year away, Jones has made an immediate impact just more than a week after getting signed by the Packers.

Lawrence R. Klapper
Lawrence Robert Klapper, 85, of Cecil, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at Shawano Medical Center with family members at his side. Lawrence was born on Nov. 15, 1929, in the family farmhouse in the Township of Green Valley to the late Leonard and Hattie (Schuettpelz) Klapper. On Sept. 5, 1959, Lawrence was united in marriage to Jean Ellen Brecken, and they were blessed to have recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.

Gary W. Rudolph
Gary W. Rudolph, 76, of the town of Larrabee, Waupaca County, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 15, 2015, following a courageous three-year battle with colon caner. Gary was born on July 17, 1939, in Clintonville as the son of Vivian (Meyer) Rudolph and the late Walter F. Rudolph. He graduated from Clintonville High School in 1957 and attended Superior State College.

Harriet M. Brooks
Harriet M. (Huntington) Brooks, 80, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, in Winter Haven. She was born in Shawano to the late Bert and Esther (Russell) Huntington. On Oct. 31, 1959, Harriet was united in marriage to the late Robert F. Brooks.
