(Editor’s note: This is the second in a two-part series.) After a whirlwind weekend spent with my newly engaged daughter as she said “yes to the dress,” she and my future son-in-law drove me to the Dallas/Fort Worth airport to catch my plane back to Wisconsin. Packed full of a cornucopia of sights and sounds and after experiencing French, Thai and Japanese cuisine, it was time to go home. Flying solo was formidable to me.

Sixteen senior girls and 16 senior boys from Superior to Williams Bay have been selected as finalists to receive the 2025 WIAA Statewide Scholar Athlete Award. Included in that list of 32 students is Gillett’s Jesse DeBauch. More than 1,245 scholar athlete finalists have been recognized since the program began in 1984.

April 24 Bonduel 10, Manawa 0 Bonduel got a dominating performance from Cade Johnson on the mound in a 10-0 shutout over Manawa. The senior lefty allowed no hits and struck out 11 of the 12 batters he faced. Kody Schroeder came on in relief in the fifth inning. The Bears were led at the plate by Joe Felhofer and Mason Zuleger, who each had two hits including a double.

April 24 Manawa 3, Bonduel 2 Manawa defeated Bonduel 3-2 in a battle of undefeated teams in the CWC East. Lily Krenk hit a two-out, two-strike, two-run home run in the third inning that proved to be the difference in the game. Tatum Sporisky collected Bonduel’s only hit.

April 24 Oshkosh North 4, Shawano 0 Shawano has not scored a goal in five of the team’s six losses this season, dropping a nonconference game to Oshkosh North 4-0. The Hawks are 1-6-1 overall.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to focus on the road ahead to keep Adopt-A-Highway volunteers safe. DOT initiated the Adopt-A-Highway program in 1991 to allow groups to volunteer and directly support the state’s anti-litter program.
