Negotiations continue between county, hockey league
Shawano County and Shawano Hockey League officials are trying to hammer out a list of repair priorities at the Crawford Center in Shawano, the hockey league’s home ice rink. The repairs are for broken and damaged items in the building, noted when Nick Hesse, the county’s facilities management director, went through the building earlier this year. Black marks on the walls, dented garage doors and damaged service doors were highlighted.

Bike trail path subject of public meeting
A $35,000 grant to conduct a feasibility study for a new route for the Mountain-Bay Trail in the Town of Richmond is coming to fruition with a public meeting scheduled for June 25. The public is invited to attend the meeting from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Room A of the Shawano County Courthouse, 311 N. Main St. “The Mountain-Bay Trail covers 53 miles through the county and 81 miles or so through three counties,” said Nancy Brown-Koeller.

• Mitchell T. Malone, 39, Gresham, pleaded no contest June 10 to three misdemeanor charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle. The charges were amended from felony counts in a plea agreement. Judge Katherine Sloma levied fines and sentenced him to 60 days in county jail. • Alex J. Cassidy, 36, Algoma, had his probation revoked April 25 from a 2021 conviction for possession of methamphetamine.

Feemster pleads no contest in attack on girlfriend
Jordan Feemster pleaded no contest June 13 to three of the four charges against him and will be sentenced Aug. 25. Feemster’s plea included an amended charge of attempted first-degree homicide by use of a dangerous weapon to first-degree recklessly endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon. He pleaded to a similar charge, as well as criminal damage.

Bowhunting heirs visit museum to share memories
As I grow older, I find myself drawn to earlier and simpler times. Cell phones are everywhere, and we can now make calls anywhere, including our cars or even the bathroom. I remember the old Ma Bell phones that were built like anvils and almost as heavy. We paid high prices for long-distance calls, but local calls were almost free. You didn’t have a choice of carriers. It was AT&T or nothing. Are cell phones better?

Injuries, public safety concern police chief
Injury in the line of duty is always a risk for law enforcement, but local officers are feeling it more frequently, according to Shawano Police Chief Mike Musolff. Musolff told the Shawano Common Council on June 11 that there has been an increase in attacks on his officers.

Changes proposed for Highway 64 between Mountain and Pound
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will host a live, online public involvement meeting to discuss proposed improvements on state Highway 64 from the state Highway 32 South Junction in Mountain to County Road S in Pound. The meeting will be held at 4 p.m. June 24 via Microsoft Teams.
