Vehicle break-ins seeing uptick on police radar
A rash of vehicle break-ins in the city of Shawano has Police Chief Mike Musolff calling for parents to keep closer track of their teenage kids. “There’s a significant amount of increased calls of people — kids, most likely — breaking into cars and breaking windows around town, which we’re investigating,” Musolff said. Suspects resisting arrest up 40% in 2025
There’s always a risk when it comes to police officers answering calls where suspects could become violent, but the Shawano Police Department is suffering more injuries in 2025 when it comes to arresting people. Police Chief Mike Musolff said that the department has seen a 40% increase in people resisting arrest this year, with two officers having to take time out of work for recovery because of injuries sustained apprehending suspects.
Foreclosure sales bring in more than expected
The sale of of five foreclosed properties went better than expected, according to Shawano County officials. Bids on the properties were opened July 15, after each site was advertised with an appraised value. The total appraised value of the five sites was $108,200. They sold for a combined $193,787.99. The highest amount received was for a site in Aniwa. “This floored me, because I couldn’t even speak,” said Deb Wallace, county treasurer.

Overall county staffing improved from last month
Overall staffing numbers for Shawano County are improving, but there remain concerns in certain departments, as well as the reasons people are leaving their jobs. June Hasser, human resources director, told the executive committee July 16 the 12 open positions are an improvement from the 20 open jobs the previous month. “Last year, we had only eight open positions,” she said.
