The morning of Sept. 6, 2025, saw the closing of the final chapter of a remarkable girl from Coleman.

Audrey Ann Rivet (Chadwick, Rhode), 96, was born July 19, 1929, the firstborn of Ed and Delima (Woulf) Rivet, descendants of French Canadians who made their way to this frontier several generations prior. They worked a small plot of land on the Little Peshtigo River just west of town.

Dorothy M. Hanke, 94, formerly of Elderon, died on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, at Rennes Health and Rehab in Weston.

Dorothy was born April 22, 1931, in the Town of Norrie, the daughter of James and Hilda (Ranke) Twaroski.

On Aug. 19, 1950, Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald Hanke at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wittenberg. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 2013.

Nature lovers, volunteers and area residents will celebrate Sept. 13 with the grand reopening of Gibson Island at the Cloverleaf Lakes, marking the dedication of a new Americans with Disabilities Act-approved trail exploring the island’s scenic shoreline, wetlands and wooded upland.

Annelies Hartwig resigned from the Shawano County Board after purchasing a home outside of the district.

County Board Chairman Tom Kautza made the announcement Sept. 3 at the county’s executive committee meeting.

Hartwig submitted her resignation Aug. 29. It was effective immediately.

Accusations by Shawano County Supervisor Lowel Hammett that $1 million is missing from the county treasury aren’t going away.

County resident Tim Steffen asked the county board Aug. 27 for a forensic audit of the books to set the record straight.

Shawano County is expected to borrow $3 million and use another $2.9 million from its general fund reserves to balance the 2026 budget, as approved by the executive committee Sept. 3.

The county’s mill rate will decline from $3.98 per $1,000 of assessed value to $3.72.

• James D. Soun, 42, Green Bay, had his probation revoked July 7 on a 2022 conviction for possession of narcotic drugs, possession of methamphetamine, and misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting or obstructing an officer. Judge Katherine Sloma sentenced him Sept. 2 to one year in prison, followed by one year of extended supervision with conditions.
