Sacred Heart Catholic School recognized two of its faithful alumni Jan. 26 with a new award called A Heart Like Christ’s Alumni Award.

The award, given to James Boehm and Sharon Giese, goes to former Sacred Heart students who continue to embody the values of their faith and inspire the current students to serve and live lives of faith.

With the general election for sheriff, coroner and clerk of courts coming in November, Shawano County officials must now determine the salaries for their next four-year terms.

Julie Hasser, interim administrative coordinator and director of human resources, said 3% increases have been the norm in previous years, but those salaries are far below the statewide averages.

Shawano County Sheriff George Lenzner announced Jan. 27 he will seek a second term as sheriff.

“I am proud to announce that I am running for reelection for sheriff,” he said. “It has been an honor to serve our community, and I am committed to continuing the work of keeping our county safe, accountable and strong.”

Lenzner was first elected sheriff in 2022. The position is a four-year term.

As of Jan. 26, all public entrances to the Shawano County Courthouse are locked at 6 p.m. weekdays.

Courthouse hours of operation remain from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Individuals who need reasonable accommodations are encouraged to contact the county in advance of their visit so arrangements can be made.

An Illinois woman was sentenced Jan. 26 to 12 months in prison and ordered to make restitution to the Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin for theft during a COVID-era program that provided funds to business that were shut down during the pandemic.

Jennifer L. Feldhausen, an enrolled member of the tribe, received six payments from the tribe totaling $65,000 between Jan. 31 and March 3, 2022.

Nearly a dozen Shawano Community High School art students had their work selected for display in the annual Wisconsin Art Education Youth Art Month Regional Exhibit.

Their art will be on display through Feb. 21 at the Neville Public Museum in Green Bay.

Susan A. “Sue” Fliess, 66, passed away at her home with her family and friends by her side Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026, after a short courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Sue was born March 29, 1959, in Franklin, the daughter of the late Ralph and Patsy (Johnson) Bushey. She attended Franklin High School and graduated with the class of 1977.
