Debra R. Clay, 67, of Green Bay, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 26, 2023, at Bellin Memorial Hospital in Green Bay. Debra, better known as Deb, was born in Oconto County on Jan. 17, 1956, as daughter to the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Ratz) Sommerfeld. Debra grew up helping on the farm and was a graduate of Gillett High School with the class of 1974.

Gayle L. Schmidt, 86, of Weston, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Gayle was born on March 4, 1937, in Oakland, California. She was the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Fitts) Johnson. Gayle met and fell in love with a U.S. Marine, Alan Schmidt, while he was stationed in Oakland. The couple was united in marriage on Aug. 17, 1957.

Shawano County, Menominee County and the city of Shawano were jointly awarded a $100,000 grant for seat belt enforcement and $50,000 for OWI enforcement to be used during the first nine months of next year. Shawano County’s share of these grant funds totals $50,000 for seat belt enforcement and $30,000 for OWI enforcement, funds that are expected to be accepted by the Shawano County Public Safety Committee when it meets Dec. 6.

Ira M. Shepard, 91, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023. Ira was born on March 10, 1932, in the Town of Red Springs. He was the son of the late Harry and Grace (Yokkum) Shepard. Ira enlisted in the United States military and served his country proudly in the Marines, Army and Air Force before receiving his honorable discharge. In March 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Tomow.
