Theodore Hughes
Theodore Evan Hughes died peacefully at his home in Mountain on Dec. 1, 2023. He was born to Viola (Pieper) Hughes and Earl Hughes on Dec. 18, 1946, in Mountain. Ted worked for over 25 years at Ladish Manufacturing of Cudahy as a die design engineer and manager with a long history of working on projects for NASA, including the moon and the space shuttle programs, ESA, the U.S. military and civilian aircraft industries.
Hawks girl wrestlers win debut tournament
If the opening tournament for the Shawano girls wrestling team is anything like the Dec. 2 event in Kimberly, the 2023-24 season will be full of great matches to watch. The Hawks scored 262 points en route to a first-place victory against more than two dozen other schools. “The Hawks were led by strong performances by Gwyn Hermann at the 100-pound weight class and by Macey Nelson in the 138-pound weight class,” Shawano coach Mike Homan said.
Lena girls basketball team dispenses of opponents with ease
Dec. 1 Bonduel defeats Menominee Indian Bonduel and Menominee Indian’s girls basketball teams kicked off Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division play Dec. 1, with the Bears finishing on top 72-57. The Eagles were led by Urijah Reevis with 25 points and Ayanna Smith with 17. Natalie Peters had 13 rebounds for Menominee Indian, and Reevis had 12.
Boys basketball season underway
Dec. 2 Gresham’s boys basketball team fell to 0-2 with a 75-41 loss to Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah on Dec. 2. The host Wildcats were outscored 44-27 in the first half and 31-14 in the second half. Dec. 1 Pulaski defeats Shawano Pulaski’s boys basketball team improved to 2-0 and Shawano dropped to 1-3 after the Red Raiders downed the Hawks 62-51 at Shawano on Dec.
Trial postponed in officer shooting
The second part of the trial has been postponed for the woman who shot an Oconto Falls police officer during a struggle at her apartment. Alisha M. Kocken, 31, Oconto Falls, pleaded no contest Aug.

Proceedings of Dec. 1 Amber N. Barber, 42, White Lake, was placed on two years of probation after a prison sentence was imposed and stayed for possession of narcotic drugs, in connection with an incident that occurred Aug. 31. Judge Michael Judge ruled that if she happens to have her probation revoked, she will be eligible for the Substance Abuse Program, which can lead to early release from prison upon completion.
