Shawano, Bonduel win regional volleyball titles

Oct. 26 Shawano 3, Oconto Falls 1 The seance-seeded Shawano Hawks defeated top-seeded Oconto Falls to win the regional volleyball title. Shawano won the first game 25-18, but Oconto Falls came back to claim the second game 25-22. The Hawks won the third game 25-16 and then eked out a 27-25 victory in the fourth and deciding game. The Panthers end the season at 6-3 in the North Eastern Conference, behind a three-way tie for first.
Gillett ends football season with a win
Oct. 24 Gillett 36, Wild Rose 14 The Gillett Tigers ended their season with a non-conference game, defeating Wild Rose 36-14. The Tigers took an 8-0 first quarter lead and held to a slim 15-14 halftime lead.
Shawano wins regional soccer title
Oct. 26 Shawano 2, New London 0 The Shawano Hawks are regional soccer champions after shutting out New London 2-0. Shawano will take on Lakeland in sectional action Oct. 31. West Bend West 1, Pulaski 0 The fourth-seeded Red Raiders fell to the fifth-seeded Spartans in the regional championship. Beckett Seifert scored off a corner kick in the fourth minute to give West Bend West a 1-0 advantage.

Shawano, Pulaski soccer teams move on to regional finals
Oct. 24 Pulaski 5, Green Bay Southwest 0 The Red Raiders advanced to the regional title game after shutting out Green Bay Southwest 5-0. Pulaski spread the scoring around, with goals coming from Colin Tackmier, Tate Gerth, Hudson Schultz, Josh Aranda and Maddox McKeefry. Donovan Holderness and Parker Sanders each had one assist. Josh Roth worked 65 minutes in the goal and made three saves.
Shawano, Oconto Falls to face off for regional volleyball title
Oct. 24 Shawano 3, Winneconne 0 Oconto Falls 3, Lakeland 1 Shawano will face off against Oconto Falls for the regional title in their Division 2 bracket Oct. 26. The No. 2 seeded Hawks on Oct. 24 defeated Winneconne 3-0, while the No. 1 seeded Panthers topped Lakeland 3-1 in a much closer match. Shawano won on scores of 25-6, 25-12 and 25-11. Oconto Falls won the first game 25-15 but dropped the second 23-25.
Battle of the Beasts
The calendar has turned to November, and the Green Bay Packers are looking to make it a month to remember. Four friends on the road get a chili reception
“The Great Chili Kill Off” by Livia J. Washburn is the 12th in her Fresh Baked Mystery series featuring Phyllis Newsom and her friends Carolyn Wilbarger, Eve Turner and Sam Fletcher. Phyllis is a retired teacher from Weatherford, Texas, who rents rooms to the three friends. Sam has entered a chili cook-off in far west Cactus Bluff, Texas. His big truck is towing a travel trailer he has borrowed from a neighbor.
Bowler FFA putting together Christmas parade
The Bowler FFA is planning a holiday parade, which will take place at 6 p.m. Dec. 14 on Main Street in Bowler. Anyone interested in entering a float needs to RSVP by Nov. 20 by emailing tchristian@bowler.k12.wi.us. One rule for the parade is that candy cannot be thrown; it must be handed out.
Vets 4 Vets holding spaghetti dinner in Suring
Vets 4 Vets of Northeast Wisconsin is hosting its 22nd Annual Veterans Spaghetti Dinner from 3-6 p.m. Nov. 11 at Red Maple Country Club, 501 Golf Course Road, Suring. The organization will again be offering a spaghetti, meatball, and garlic bread dinner, with carryout available on request. Full cash bar and dining room service at Red Maple will be available.
