Officials break ground at Marion Elementary School

The Marion School District broke ground Aug. 21 on an expansion project that will turn the K-6 Marion Elementary School into a K-8 school.

Construction work gets a look from commission

Work on renovating and expanding the Shawano Recreation Center is on track to be completed by June 2026, and the Shawano Park and Recreation Commission got to see how far things have progressed.

Pizza on the Farm set at Schairer’s

Labor Day weekend is filled with plenty of events, including county fairs, festivals, concerts and flea markets.

Pizza on the Farm can be added to that list as well.

Schairer’s Autumn Acres will host that event from 3-8 p.m. Aug. 30 at its new location, 154 U.S. Highway 45, Birnamwood.

Concept plans for Shawano County buildings expected next month

Concept plans for new and remodeled county buildings are expected to be ready for the public property committee when members gather Sept. 18.

Borrowing, reserves to balance Shawano County budget

Members of the Shawano County Executive Committee agreed Aug. 20 to borrow $3.4 million and use another $3 from its reserve fund to balance the proposed 2026 budget.

A final vote on the exact dollar amounts is expected to be made when the committee meets Sept. 3.

Touseys to serve as Suring parade marshals

This year marks the 95th Labor Day celebration in Suring, with events scheduled from Aug. 29 through Sept. 1.

The Labor Day parade will begin at 10 a.m., lining up at the Suring School and traveling east on Main Street. Onlookers of all ages line the street as early as 8 a.m. for front row seats for the best view and first dibs on the candy thrown from those participating in the parade.
