AROUND THE COMMUNITY: NOCTA raises trout for Wisconsin waterways

Northern Oconto County Trout Alliance (NOCTA) has reported another successful season of raising trout. NOCTA operates in conjunction with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, using 100% volunteer efforts to raise brook and brown trout from fingerlings received from the DNR in late June to an average of 8 inches by planting time in late October.
Local hero recognized at company party
During Cirrinity’s Dec. 10 annual company party at Maple Hills Golf Course in Wittenberg, one employee was recognized for a life-saving scenario from 28 years ago. Jeremy Paquette, who was invited to the party with his family, honored Dave Schmidt, because Schmidt helped to save Paquette’s life when he was just 4 years old.
AROUND THE COMMUNITY: Hoffman gets Wisconsin Farm Bureau accolades
Christa Hoffman was selected as the winner of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer and Agriculturist Outstanding Agriculture Professional Award at the organization’s 103rd annual meeting on Dec. 4. Hoffman is a business development administrator at URUS. She manages grant-funded projects focused on improving cattle management practices on farms in emerging markets.

Barn quilt combines cattle with flowers
The nation’s largest barn quilt trail in Shawano County continues to grow with the addition of its 401st quilt. It is on a barn owned by Sheldon and Merissa Cannon at W3896 County Road BE, Bonduel. The Cannons just moved to their new home a few months ago. They plan to grow sunflowers, fruits and vegetables and raise beef cattle.
AROUND THE COMMUNITY: Auction to benefit Abrams theater program
An online auction will benefit Abrams Spotlight Productions Inc. More than 60 items are up for grabs, including sailing cruises, golf packages, hotel stays, homemade candy, cookies and dinners. The auction also features theater-related prizes like season tickets, a cameo appearance in an ASPI musical, and in-person performances by characters from “Beauty and the Beast” and “White Christmas.” The ASPI Spotlight Auction opens at noon Dec.
CLUB NOTES: American Legion Auxiliary Unit 239
On Nov. 21, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 239 of Tigerton presented Marlene Blumreich with a certificate and lap quilt. Cake and Ice cream were served at the Homme Home in Wittenberg where she now resides. Marlene joined the Auxiliary in 1958 and has been very active until moving to Homme. Virginia Kauffman, auxiliary president, commented on how wonderful it was to be able to present her with these items.
