Barn quilt highlights beauty of Wolf River

The nation’s largest trail of barn quilts in Shawano County continues to grow with the addition of the 399th quilt. It is on display on a barn that overlooks the Wolf River at N5626 Poplar Road west of Shawano.

Spencer Lichon is the new strength and wellness coordinator at the Pulaski High School Fitness Center. Lichon is a 2007 Green Bay West High School graduate.
CLUB NOTES: Lena Lions
The Lena Lions welcomed Brad Paitl as a new member at the October meeting. Brad is a graduate of Lena High School and later attended Northeast Wisconsin Technical College for police science. Brad started his law enforcement career in 1999 with the Lena Police Department. In 2004, he was hired by the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy.
Quilt pays tribute to those in uniform
To honor the U.S. military and as a tribute to family members who have served our country, the pattern Randy and Renee Godin selected for their barn quilt has a patriotic theme. The quilt, Shawano County’s 398th, has been named Service with Pride and is on display on the Godin barn at W3506 State Highway 22, Cecil. The five gold stars on the quilt represent the five branches of the U.S. military — the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army, the U.S.
CMN hosts first winter farmer’s market
For those who are in need of their farmer’s market fix in the winter, look no further than Keshena. The College of Menominee Nation in Keshena hosted the first winter farmer’s market of the season, where jewellery, crafts and apple cider were available for sale. If visitors could not get to Keshena for the Oct. 28 winter farmer’s market, there are two more scheduled, with the next date being Nov. 18, followed by Dec. 16.

CLUB NOTES: Oconto Falls FFA
Two high school and 12 middle school students of the Oconto Falls FFA Chapter attended the Wisconsin Association of FFA FIRE Conference and were awarded the Spirit Award on Oct. 15 at the Fox Valley Technical College Campus in Appleton. FIRE stands for “Foundations in Reaching Excellence.” The conference helps young FFA members discover opportunities in the FFA organization and gain valuable leadership skills.
