The Shawano Optimist Club held its 19th annual girls basketball tournament on Jan. 29 at Shawano Community High School and Hillcrest Primary School. There were 24 teams in grades 4-8 including local teams and teams from as far away as Menominee, Michigan.

For the past nine years, Promote Pulaski Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, has helped to promote Pulaski by hosting the Casimir Pulaski Days event along with many businesses and organizations that have sponsored the event. The festival will take place March 6-13. The committee is bringing back the Mollie B “Casimir Pulaski’s Birthday Celebration” Virtual Polka Show at 6:30 p.m. March 6.

The Suring High School girls basketball team will hold its military night on Feb. 18 when it takes on Gillett Secondary School. All veterans will be recognized between the junior varsity and varsity game with special recognition of veteran alumni from each school to include Richard Gerndt, Michelle Thomson, Gary Lisowe and Orby Jones.

The Machickanee Players have announced that they are back on stage after an absence of two years. The group will be producing “The Charitable Sisterhood of the Second Trinity Church” written by Bo Wilson. This comedy follows the group as they unpack and comment on the donations they received for the flood victims in Guatemala.

Northcentral Technical College is extending an offer that gives learners the opportunity to apply to the college for free.
