Hawks upset No. 1 Seymour

If the Seymour High School boys basketball team overlooked Shawano, you can bet the Thunder won’t make that mistake again. The Hawks upset previously undefeated Seymour 49-48 in a Bay Conference game Tuesday night in Seymour. City approves hike in court fees
Fines and forfeitures in the city of Shawano will go up across the board starting Wednesday due to an increase in municipal court fees. The court fee, which is included in the total cost of fines and other penalties assessed by the city, will go from $28 to $38. Hair today, gone tomorrow
Five sisters shaved their heads when their mother, Patsi Giese, lost her hair while undergoing chemotherapy treatments. “Oh my gosh. You would not understand how ungodly happy that made me feel,” Giese said. “They all have wonderful hair, and to see them shave it tore at my heart.” Giese, who will be 78 in February, was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer three months ago.

Janell Sue Tourtillott, 55, of Keshena, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. Born on June 6, 1958, in Keshena, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Evangeline (Nunway) Dodge. Janell lived most of her life on the Menominee Indian Reservation. Her Indian name, given to her by Art Shegonee, was Waupekenay, meaning White Eagle Woman. On June 7, 1975, she was united in marriage to Miles A.

On Dec. 13, 2013, Tracy L. Krause passed away at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, surrounded by her family. Tracy was born on July 30, 1962, in Shawano. She had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time in the woods, going up north fishing and going for motorbike rides with her husband, Steve.

Mark Burr
Mark Burr, 53, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 14, 2013. Born on Dec. 7, 1960, in Shawano, he is the son of the late Gordon J. and Phyllis M. (Lenzner) Burr. Mark was united in marriage to Carla Huehnerfuss in Shawano on Feb. 2, 1983. Mark was a veteran and proudly served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Seagrave for 11 years and was well-known for repairing transmissions and working on cars.

Harvey William Kucksdorf
Harvey William Kucksdorf, 86, of Shawano, died on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013. Born on July 29, 1927, in the town of Herman, he is the son of the late William and Minnie (Suehring) Kucksdorf. On Dec. 23, 1950, at the Lutheran Indian Mission Church, Harvey was united in marriage to Ardelle F. Ferg, who preceded him in death on March 1, 2013. He was a cheesemaker and dairy farmer in the town of Herman.
