Board hires firm for county wage study

The Shawano County Board of Supervisors agreed on Wednesday, by a 25-1 vote, to spend $42,000 on a wage and job classification study for the county. The action ends months of discussion whether to hire an outside firm to do the study or to do it in-house. The board selected Madison-based Carlson Dettmann Consulting LLC to do the study. “Pay is something that everyone has an opinion about,” said Charlie Carlson, a partner with the consulting firm.

Woman gets five years for Reinhart embezzlement
A former Gillett woman was sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison for embezzling nearly $300,000 from Reinhart Foods to support what she said was a gambling addiction. Barbara J. Wawrzyn, 61, will also have to serve another five years extended supervision after her prison sentence. Wawrzyn pleaded no contest in October to seven felony counts of theft from a business.

Vera Ella Raether, 92, of Seymour, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Seymour. She was born Feb. 12, 1921, daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Hartsworm) Puls. She was united in marriage to Harrison Raether.

Marjorie M. Sweda, 69, of the town of Underhill, Oconto County, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, with her loving husband by her side. Marjorie was born Jan. 21, 1944, in Mount Clemens, Mich., a daughter of the late Harold and Hazel (Socia) DeCaussin. Harvey D. Jewell
Harvey D. Jewell, formerly of Shawano, passed away on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at St. Clare Hospital, Baraboo. He was born June 2, 1927, to the late Arthur and Melita (Baumbach) Jewell. Harvey served in the United States Navy from 1945-46 and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy in 1951.

Bonduel falls to Shiocton
The Bonduel High School boys basketball team lost to Shiocton 59-40 in a Central Wisconsin Conference-8 game Tuesday in Shiocton. The Bears’ offense went quiet in the second half, scoring only 14 points and getting outscored 17-8 in the third quarter. Trevor Pedersen led Bonduel (3-4, 0-3 CWC-8) with eight points. Wildcats suffer first loss of season
Almond-Bancroft handed the Gresham Community High School boys basketball team its first loss of the season, 58-55, Tuesday in Gresham.
