Betty M. Rock, 85, Birnamwood, died on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Wausau Manor. She was born on Sept. 16, 1928, in the town of Almon, Shawano County, the daughter of the late Otto and Alma (Weikel) Forsberg. She married Elmer Grosskopf on Feb. 12, 1946. The couple later divorced. She then married Raymond Rock Sr. on May 18, 1968. He preceded her in death on Aug.

Edith Josephine (nee Baker) Weix, 97, of Bonduel, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, in Bonduel. Born on Aug. 1, 1916, in Salem, near Maiden Rock, she was the daughter of the late Frank and May (Roeteh) Baker. On Aug. 21, 1939, she was united in marriage to Frank S. Weix in Elmwood. The couple lived in Durand, Bear Creek and Almond before making their final moved to Bonduel. Edith enjoyed being a housewife and mother to her beloved children.

Peggy Jo Pederson, 57, of the town of Herman, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, in Appleton. Born on July 11, 1956, in Appleton, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Dorothy (Ganski) Olsen. On April 21, 1979, she was united in marriage to Orlin Pederson in Shawano. Together the couple ran Pederson Bar in Leopolis for several years. Peggy also worked at T&C Supermarket for 15 years and Walgreens for 10 years.

Sandra L. “Sandy” Eichstaedt, 72, of Shawano, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, Jan. 4, 2014, at Maple Lane Health Care Center, where she had been a resident for the past 14 months. Sandy was born March 2, 1941, in Green Bay, a daughter of the late Wesley and Julia (McConley) Stokes. Sandy attended school in Green Bay and Waukesha, graduating from Waukesha High School in 1959. Following high school, she moved back to Green Bay.

Eric “Rick” B. Mahringer, 69, of Marshfield, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield with his wife, Penny, and sister, Lynn, at his bedside. His death followed an 11-month courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Marshfield. The Rev. Joel Deaner-Rogers will officiate. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan.

At 6:42 a.m. Jan. 30, a car driven by a woman from Oconto was eastbound on County Road A in the town of Little River when it struck a snowbank, which had drifted onto the roadway, and entered a ditch. The driver was not injured. Moderate damage was reported to her vehicle. At 2 a.m. Jan.

The daughter of an elderly Oconto Falls woman submitted a fraud complaint Dec. 17, reporting unexplained monthly charges of $70 appeared on her mother’s credit card statement. Seven people were cited for theft Dec. 19 for failure to return materials to the Oconto Falls Library, 251 N. Main St. Police counseled two sixth-grade students at Washington Middle School after they reportedly caused a disturbance Dec. 10 at the school, 102 S.

The 2014 Oconto County Senior and Junior Fairest of the Fair will be chosen in a combined competition at a new venue. The contest will be held March 1 at Oconto Falls High School. A reception will follow individual and group interviews, and final judging will conclude the program. The reception and final program will be open to the public. This is the first year the two contests will be combined.
