At 12:45 a.m. April 12 in Pensaukee, a vehicle driven by an Oconto man was northbound on U.S. Highway 41 when he reportedly fell asleep. He drove onto the median and overcorrected. His vehicle spun around on the highway and landed on its roof in the west ditch. The vehicle was severely damaged and was towed. At 3 a.m.

Proceedings from April 17 Jose A. Nieto, 37, Suring, was sentenced to 25 years incarceration and 10 years extended supervision on charges of child enticement, which occurred Dec. 3 in the town of How. The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Wisconsin will soon begin conducting status reviews of farms participating in USDA programs. The conservation compliance section of the 2014 Farm Bill requires farmers who are participating in USDA programs to control erosion on highly erodible cropland and avoid converting wetlands into cropland.

Paul Mogged was re-elected to a five-year term on the Oconto Falls Water and Light Commission, by a 3-1 vote of the City Council on April 15. Mogged, commissioner since 2006, was nominated by Alderman Marty Coopman, the City Council representative on the commission. City Council members Don Osborne, George Stucky and Coopman voted yes to the appointment. Kevin Rusch, who nominated Lawrence Kindel for the position, voted no.

The Gillett School District will replace the roof at its elementary school, a roof laid when the school was built in 1977. “It’s time to do something,” Superintendent Todd Carlson said. The cost of the project was estimated at $277,000.

An Oconto man has been charged with starting the Christmas Eve fire at Log Jam Saloon in Oconto. Donald L. Tappa, 39, was charged Thursday in Oconto Circuit Court with one count of arson for setting fire at the bar at 900 Main St., which resulted in $100,000 in damage. Tappa also faces several other counts, including two counts of burglary and one count of theft, relating to the theft of money from a safe, jukebox and ATM at the bar.

Oconto High School students will attend classes at Oconto Middle School temporarily, after a fire that started in the men’s bathroom April 16 caused extensive smoke damage at the high school. The cause of the fire, which resulted in $5 million of damage, is under investigation by the Oconto fire and police departments.
