E. Thomas Dennison, 77, of Eau Claire, died peacefully at home on Friday, July 11, 2014. He was born to Earl and Clara (Hedtke) Dennison, on Feb. 12, 1937, in Bear Creek. Tom graduated from Bear Creek High School. In 1956, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Tom married Hilda Turnquist on Dec. 23, 1967, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Greenwood.

Four weeks into the season, changes made this year to the Shawano Farmers Market have been well-received by vendors and customers. The market moved from the City Hall parking lot, where it was held for six years, to the east edge of Franklin Park, at the corner of Division and Washington streets.

The Backpacks for Kids campaign is collecting school supplies until Aug. 4. The Salvation Army purchases 360 backpacks that are then filled with supplies donated by area residents.

American Legion Post 117 on June 23 recognized Shawano Community High School graduated senior Caitlin Raether as the winner of the coveted American Legion School Award for 2013-14. This is the highest honor awarded to youth by the American Legion.

Dean William “Beaner” Moesch, 79, of Shawano, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014, in Shawano. Born on Dec. 27, 1934, in Laona, he was the son of the late Harvey and Bernice (Schultz) Moesch. Dean enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean Conflict. On May 14, 2014, he married Karen Marcks.

Shirley Ann Welcing, 79, of Bonduel, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014. Born on Feb. 15, 1935, in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Clara Meyer. On June 12, 1954, Shirley was united in marriage to Raymond Welcing Sr. Shirley was very active in the community of Bonduel. She helped at the Bonduel Civic Association, the Fourth of July celebration and the Legion Auxiliary. Shirley was an active member of St.

The Shawano School Board plans to form a committee to review school start times for middle and high school students. No changes would be made prior to the 2014-15 school year. Threat of rain might have kept a few people away, but the Shawano Youth League was able to successfully complete its first weekend of tournaments this season at Memorial Park. The tournaments for 7-8U baseball, 10U softball and 12U softball, which began Friday and went until Sunday, drew 28 teams. “A lot of good ball players here this weekend,” said Dustin Beyer, a tournament representative/coordinator and coach of the Shawano 7U baseball team.
