Melvin G. Schroepfer, of Antigo, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at his home. He was 71 years old. He was born on Sept. 2, 1942, in Antigo, a son of late Melvin and Alice (Hoecherl) Schroepfer. He married Peggy Nicholson on June 8, 1963, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Antigo. She survives. Mr. Schroepfer was employed at Mortenson Brothers Trucking and Verne’s Auto before becoming self-employed in 1979.

The Clintonville American Legion baseball team lost to Denmark 5-3 in the American Legion Class A state tournament Thursday in Nekoosa. The Diamond Cats (18-6) took a 2-0 lead in the first. Denmark (10-7) answered with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Both teams tacked on a run the rest of the way. The loss sets up a game at 4:30 p.m.

Mary Lynn Gwidt, 55, Oconto Falls, died unexpectedly of natural causes July 24, 2014, at her home. The daughter of Adam and Ione (Moesch) Gwidt was born in Pulaski on July 3, 1959. Mary Lynn had been employed at Carver Yacht in Pulaski and then for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where she was involved with the gypsy moth studies. Mary Lynn was a small animal 4-H leader in Oconto County.

Convicted felons released into the Shawano community will continue to be placed at the New Era House until a new facility can be found. The state Department of Corrections’ contract with the New Era House, 105 E. Richmond St., officially expired Thursday after a one-month extension. The DOC earlier this year contracted with ATTIC Correctional Services for an eight-bed facility at 227 E. Richmond St.
