Veronica J. (Micoley) LaBrosse (nee Reindl), 74, Oconto Falls, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at Sharpe Care Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 23, 1940, in Oconto Falls, the daughter of Peter and Bernice (McCallister) Reindl. Veronica was married to Jack Micoley, and together they had six children. On Oct. 26, 1984, she married Anthony C. LaBrosse. She also worked as a CNA at Sharpe Care for 22 years.

Kathleen B. (Eschner) Genke, 69, of the town of Sheboygan, peacefully passed away at her home on Sunday morning, Oct. 5, 2014. Kathy was born on June 24, 1945, in Clinton, Iowa. Her parents were Harlan and Dolores (Eastman) Eschner. She attended Gillett High School. Kathy and Larry Genke were united in marriage on Dec. 15, 1962, at the home of her grandma and grandpa Eschner in Gillett. Kathy was a devoted homemaker all her life.

There were few, if any, tears shed when the news hit the airwaves above the path around the Falls. It would have been a much different story a couple of generations ago. It was in the 1950s when people living in homes all across the country began to feel their living rooms were not complete without a television. Reception could be fuzzy. There will be a postseason for the Gillett High School football team, which defeated Crivitz 21-6 Friday behind another 100-yard game by senior running back Monte Noffke. Noffke rushed for 186 yards on 39 carries and scored two touchdowns. Brittany Russell knew that the only way she was going to improve her golf game was by practicing. The Oconto Falls High School junior hit the links frequently during the summer, continued to work on her game throughout the fall and recently learned she was named to the All-Bay Conference second team. “I was really excited about it,” Russell said.

The Shawano School District is having difficulty competing with other school districts for substitute teachers, and it’s willing to shell out more money to ensure its classrooms are manned. The School Board voted 6-1 Monday night to increase substitute teacher pay from $90 daily to $120—triple the increase requested by district officials.
