Miami confident defense will hold up

Wildcats unhappy with No. 4 seed in soccer tourney
Gresham/Bowler (15-3-3) earned a No. 4 seed in the WIAA Division 4 tournament, the highest seed of the area’s teams. Gresham/Bowler coach Nate Boucher said his players thought they could have had a higher seed and are out to prove it. “We definitely had the best record going into the (seeding) meeting,” Boucher said. “I guess other teams’ coaches felt different.

PACKERS Stop the Run The Miami Dolphins have the sixth-ranked rushing offense in the league. They are averaging 142.3 yards per game and have a 5-yard per rush average. Knowshon Moreno is trying to return from an elbow injury that held him out of the last two games. Lamar Miller has played well in Moreno’s absence, racking up 277 yards, 5.7 yards per rush, in four games. The two will likely split time if Moreno is healthy enough to go.

Arvin J. Schultz, 75, died peacefully at home Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014. He was born June 7, 1939, to the late Frank and Agnes (Behling) in Shawano. On Sept. 10, 1966, Arvin married Judy Mehlhorn at St. James Lutheran Church, Shawano. Arvin was an avid gardener who enjoyed time outdoors in the woods and fishing.

Lutheran high school gearing up fundraising effort
Wolf River Lutheran High School will hold a Family Fun Fair and Auction on Saturday at Boarders Inn & Suites in Shawano. Committee backs proposed zoning code rewrite
A steering committee gave its blessing Thursday to a proposed zoning code rewrite, sending it off to the Shawano Plan Commission and Common Council for consideration after a lightly attended open house. Vigil sheds light on domestic violence
Sharon Meisner was a victim of domestic violence when she arrived at the Safe Haven shelter in Shawano in 2007. Since then, she has become an advocate and, though she dislikes the term, survivor. “People are uncomfortable about this topic. They sometimes don’t have the courage to say ‘I am a survivor of domestic abuse,’” Meisner said Thursday at a candlelight vigil intended to draw attention to domestic violence issues.
