Three members of the Oconto Falls High School volleyball team were named to the All-Bay Conference squad announced Friday.
Junior Emily Kilmer was named to the all-conference first team. She finished fourth in the Bay in points with 121, and also had 92 kills and five blocks.
“She was our go-to hitter who dominated at times throughout the season,” Oconto Falls coach Rochell Otto said. “She was very deserving of first-team recognition.”
Kilmer said she knew she had to step up following the losses of McKenna Larsen, Carly Lemke, Liz Watzka and Rachael Winter to graduation after last season.
“It was a really big change from last year. … But we learned to play together,” Kilmer said.
Kilmer acknowledged she has the ability to maintain a level head during intense matches.
“I am pretty good at brushing things off,” she said. “I have a lot of energy and get excited over every point.”
Senior McKayla Johnson, an honorable-mention selection last year, was named to the second team this season. She led the Bay in digs with 198 and registered 24 service aces.
“She was our rock in the back row, and her back row play was amazing,” Otto said.
“Being a senior, she pushed us,” Kilmer added.
Junior Alyssa Nelson also earned honorable mention. She tied for the conference lead in service aces with 31, and also produced 58 kills and 90.5 points.
“She played well all around and was just a solid player for us offensively and defensively,” Otto said.
Nelson said she is already looking forward to playing her senior season alongside Kilmer.
“She is a real joy to play with and is always happy and smiling,” Nelson said.
Oconto Falls (5-7, 4-4 Bay) finished fifth in the Bay Conference.
Maggie Liebeck, of Luxemburg-Casco, was named the conference’s player of the year.
