Committee halts efforts to get MRAP

Shawano County’s Public Safety Committee Wednesday put an end to the Sheriff’s Department’s plans to seek a mine resistant armored personnel carrier, known in shorthand as MRAP. Honoring America and the holiday season
About 180 third-grade students from Olga Brener Intermediate School in Shawano sang songs of Christmas cheer and honored military members during a concert at the auditorium of Shawano Community High School Tuesday. Few turn out for open house on new zoning map

Hawks win first meet of the season

Sales violation reversed on appeal
A state appeals court Tuesday reversed an Eland man’s violation of Shawano County’s transient merchant ordinance and $783 forfeiture, concluding he has operated a regular food sales route for years. Damien T. Plaski, 39, stopped at Janice Wright’s Wescott residence in September 2013 and offered to sell her frozen seafood.

Orville Marlin Pevonka
Orville Marlin Pevonka, 89, of Shawano, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Nov. 29, 2014, at Evergreen Care Center. Born on June 2, 1925, in Leopolis, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Paiser) Pevonka. Orville attended Leopolis Grade School and graduated from Marion High School in 1942. Orville was accepted into the United States Army in June 1946 and was stationed in Japan. He was discharged in May 1947.

Roger L. Malueg
Roger L. Malueg, 76, of Fern, Wisconsin, passed away, Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, at Dickinson County Health Care System, Iron Mountain. He was born Jan. 26, 1938, in Bowler, son of the late Lawrence and Mabel (Kloth) Malueg. Roger grew up in Bowler and graduated from Bowler High School. He worked for John Oster Company for over 30 years and then for Standard Machine, Saukville, Wisconsin, for 15 years, retiring from there.

Jacqueline Joyce Church
Jacqueline Joyce Church, 64, of Bowler, passed away on Nov. 27, 2014. Jacqueline was born on Nov. 2, 1950, in Frankfort, Michigan to the late Walter C. and Helena (Currie) Hoadley. On April 9, 1973, she married Dewey Bruce Church I in Menominee, Michigan. Jacqueline was a caring, giving, selfless person who loved meeting new people and visiting with friends. She was also very artistic.
