Pulaski golfers hit a 228 and tied Manitowoc Lincoln for last place at Autumn Ridge Golf Course in Valders.

Ellie Mork led the Red Raiders with 49. Also scoring were Taylor Murphy 54, Kaylee Weinbrenner 59 and Talia Van Hout 66.

Special youth hunting weekends for wild turkey, white-tailed deer and waterfowl allow youngsters to hunt and gain experience without competing against adults. These youth hunting events are scheduled one weekend before the regular hunting season and are open to residents and non-residents 15 and younger.

All youth hunters must have successfully completed a hunter education program or participated in the mentored hunt program.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reminds hunters to prepare for the opening of several hunting seasons in September. New this fall, the DNR published an online version of the hunting regulations, including a drop-down filter that can help people navigate to the info they need faster. Duane F. Batchelor, 64, of Little Suamico, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, at a local hospital. The son of Louis and Margaret (Lawrence) Grell was born Feb. 10, 1962, in Dodgeville.

Allan G. Jensen, 81, of Birnamwood, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, under the care of his family and Heartland Hospice.

Allan was born Sept. 16, 1944, in Wittenberg, the son of Allen and Irene (Pingel) Jensen. Allan was united in marriage to Mary Dring on Aug. 15, 1964, in Richland Center. She preceded him in death July 17, 2018.

The Gillett School District has learned lessons from a failed operational referendum in April and made some adjustments to ask for smaller bites when it asks voters to approve overriding state-mandated funding caps this November.

The Shawano County Fair kicked off its 145th year Sept. 2, with officials vowing this would be the best one yet as the fair celebrated the United States’ 250th anniversary.

A 20-foot-long enclosed trailer once confiscated as evidence from a crime will soon be used as the new mobile command vehicle for the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department.

The public safety committee voted Sept. 2 to authorize the disposal or sale of the existing Winnebago RV and replace it with the trailer.

An emergency management grant of about $40,000 for Shawano County finally appears to be on its way.

Shawano County Sheriff Lt. Chris Madle, also the county’s emergency management director, told the public safety committee Sept. 2 the application for the Emergency Management Performance Grant was received the previous week.
