The first wave of S.C. Swiderski’s Wittenberg apartments are nearing completion, and the housing company opened up some of them for the public to check out March 12.

It didn’t take long for the open apartments to fill up with interested people, and applications are already coming in, according to managers on the site. The first eight units, all single-level apartments, are expected to open in May.

The U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs has released the draft environmental assessment for the proposed Hard Rock Casino in Kenosha.

The EA analyzes the potential effects of acquiring land in Kenosha for the Menominee Indian Tribe and its proposed development of the property as a casino-hotel, offering class III gaming pursuant to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, consistent with other tribal casinos in the state.

Shawano County officials said they have finally resumed contact with the owner of a Fourth Street home the county is interested in purchasing.

Nick Hesse, Shawano County’s facilities management director, told the public property committee March 12 he recently talked with Meshan Latender, owner of 211 W. Fourth St.

“We got the deed straightened out,” Hesse said. “It’s just her name on the deed now.”

That’s not the case for the Tigerton Tigers, however.

Both teams are one win away from a trip to state after winning their sectional semifinal game March 12. Bonduel topped previously unbeaten Kewaunee 73-62 in Division 4 in Kaukauna, while Tigerton kept its undefeated season alive with a 54-41 win over Wabeno/Laona in a matchup of Division 5 teams in Antigo.

The Shawano/Bonduel boys hockey team only has one more year of an independent schedule before joining the Great Northern Conference in 2027-28.

The WIAA board of control voted March 10 to approve Shawano’s request to join the conference.

“We’re excited about it,” said Adam Gafner, Shawano/Bonduel head coach and president of the Shawano Hockey League. “There is a lot of value and purpose in joining a conference.”
