Northcentral Technical College (NTC) has been awarded an International Award in Lifelong Learning for Best Business and Industry Programming by the Learning Resources Network (LERN), the largest association in lifelong learning in the world. “We are honored for this recognition by LERN,” said Brad Gast, NTC dean of workforce training and professional development.

The Shawano School District is partnering with Rural Virtual Academy to allow Shawano students to receive at-home virtual instruction through the Academy while remaining district students. Previously, students wanting to receive virtual instruction had to transfer out of Shawano through the open enrollment process.

Identifying family treasures is the scheduled topic of the monthly Oconto County Historical Society Speaker Series program at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 1 in the meeting room of the Beyer Home and Carriage Museum, 915 Park Ave., Oconto. Bill Eiler, owner of Frugal Classics, in De Pere, an estate sale business, will be the evening’s presenter. Eiler has been a long-time antique collector and is very knowledgeable in the area of art.

The Bear Man, Jim Van Steenhouse, and his wife, Liz, will be speaking during the 10 a.m. service Jan. 28 at Hillside Assembly, 5890 State Highway 22, Gillett. Van Steenhouse will share his story about a bear attack that nearly took his life while on an archery moose hunt. After this attack, Van Steenhouse and his wife faced some insurmountable marriage difficulties that his new faith in Christ enabled them to overcome.
