The Oconto County Youth Fair Board has begun taking applications for the 2024 Fairest of the Fair/Fair Ambassador, residents of Oconto County who are interested in serving as representatives for the 2024 Fair. Florence Birr, 92, Gillett, formerly Oconto Falls, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, 2024, in the comfort of Serenity Gardens. She was born Feb. 26, 1931, in the Town of Morgan to Maynard and Nora (Gaertig) Aprill. Florence grew up in the Town of Morgan, where she was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Following graduation from Gillett High School, she attended nursing school in Milwaukee and received her LPN degree. On Jan.

Some time ago I read book one in Kat Bellemore’s Maddie Swallows series. It was a quick read with a plausible plot. So, when I found “Dead Upon Arrival,” I decided to give it a try. Maddie Swallows left for college and never looked back. Along the way she became a psychologist, married, had two children, and is now divorced. At this point she has returned to Amor, New Mexico, and opened a clinic with her best friend, Trish.

There’s a common saying about small towns that states, “Blink and you’ll miss it.” However, that doesn’t mean that vehicle operators should speed through a small town and be from one side to the other in the time it takes your eyes to close and open again. Apparently, some folks cruising around Bonduel didn’t get the memo. That’s why some careless driver hit a young child in the crosswalk on County Road BE.

School zones are a maximum of 15 miles per hour when there are children around, but folks driving along County Road BE in Bonduel are forgetting that. A 78-year-old man who was found dead at Lulu Lake early Christmas Day morning was identified as Karl E. “Butch” Barkow Sr., according to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office.
