Incumbent Alderman John Hoeffs easily won election for another term April 2 over newcomer Brian Suprise as voters took to the polls for the spring election.
Hoeffs received 178 votes in the 6th Aldermanic District, more than double the 85 votes Suprise received.
Hoeffs ran on his experience with the city for more than a decade, along with the strides the city has made to get new housing in the community. Suprise was pushing for a reduction in government overreach and dropping property taxes.
“I appreciate the continued support of my constituents for recognizing my experience representing District 6 on the city council,” Hoeffs wrote in an email to NEW Media.
"Just want to congratulate my opponent, but I am sad for the folks in my district that expressed their desire for change in leadership," Suprise wrote in an email.
While there were no candidates on the ballot in the 4th Aldermanic District, Jack Young received 13 write-in votes, while Lisa Hoffman received nine. Hoffman had announced that she was not running for a fourth term back in December, but when no one else stepped forward to run by the deadline in early January, Hoffman decided to run again as a write-in candidate, according to City Clerk Lesley Nemetz.
Jim Hauer was unopposed in the 2nd Aldermanic District, receiving 187 votes, while Mayor Bruce Milavitz was also unopposed, receiving 1,270 votes.
According to Nemetz, voter turnout was 36%.
The Shawano School District also saw unopposed races, as Al Pyatskowit, Christine McKinnies, Karen Houston and Frank Kugel were elected to new terms.
