Hauke, 47, Birnamwood, pleaded no contest May 21 to charges in seven cases: possession of cocaine, possession of THC (second or subsequent offense), possession of narcotic drugs, 15 cases of felony bail jumping, as well as misdemeanor charges — two counts of operating while revoked, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and four counts of misdemeanor bail jumping.

Lois Dorothy (Passuello) Blank, 86, formerly of Birnamwood, died on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in Owosso, Michigan, in her beautiful apartment at Oliver Woods Assisted Living Facility. Her family and beloved cats, Kitty-Kitty and Squirt, were at her bedside before her passing. Lois was born in Birnamwood on June 19, 1937, the daughter of Victor and Leona Sophie (Kelm) Passuello. She graduated from Birnamwood High School in 1955.

May 23 Shawano 4, Antigo 1 Shawano made it through the first round of regional action with a 4-1 win over Antigo. Tom Keszo pitched a complete game and earned the victory. He gave up five hits and one run in seven innings. He struck out nine. Keszo also had two hits at at the plate.

May 23 Division 3 Marathon Regional Marion golfers scored 397 and tied for fifth place at Pine Valley Golf Course in Marathon City. Manawa placed fourth with a 391 and was the final team to advance in the playoffs. Collin Grogan led the Mustangs with a 96. He was joined by Sam Gueths and Jack Schoen each with an even 100 and Brady Malueg with a 101. Edward Schoen also carded a 104.

May 24 Boys lacrosse The Pulaski boys lacrosse team’s season ended with a Round 1 playoff loss to Notre Dame. The Red Raiders lost 13-2 to bring their inaugural season to a close. May 23 Shawano 10, Antigo 0 The Hawks soccer team concluded its regular season schedule with a non-conference home game and a benefit game for the Green Bay Veterans Manor. Many donations were made, both monetary and nonperishable food items, during the 10-0 win. Trinity Popelka scored four goals for the Hawks. Darcie Erdmann, Amelia Klement and Kendall Knope each had a goal.

May 23 Wittenberg-Birnamwood 6, Amherst 1 Wittenberg-Birnamwood is the regional champion after defeating Amherst 6-1. The No. 2 seeded Chargers will play at No. 1 seed Peshtigo on May 28 in the sectional semifinals. Coleman 6, Bonduel 0 The Bears were shut out 6-0 in the regional final that ended their season. Bonduel ended its regular season in fifth place in the Central Wisconsin East Conference with a 6-8 record.

May 23 Sectionals at Hudson Two relay teams and five individuals will represent Shawano at the state Division 1 track meet May 31 at UW-La Crosse. At the sectional meet in Hudson, the girls 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams each won the gold.
