Marlene Schmidt, 85, of Bonduel, passed away on May 31, 2024. Marlene was born in Hayes, Town of How, on July 2, 1938, daughter of the late Harry and Louise (Burandt) Giese. Marlene grew up in Gillett and graduated from Gillett High School. She worked at Northern Shoe in Pulaski for 21 years. On May 11, 1968, Marlene was united in marriage to Reynold O. Schmidt in Gillett. The couple moved to Bonduel where Marlene worked at St.

Joan E. Vanlerberghe, 76, of Green Bay, passed away Thursday evening, May 23, 2024, at Bellin Memorial Hospital in Green Bay. She was born Oct. 30, 1947, in Shawano to the late Henry and Bernice (Balke) Dillenburg. Joan was a graduate of Shawano High School with the class of 1965. On March 4, 1972, she married James Vanlerberghe at St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Audrey A. Lambrecht, age 80, of Mountain, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Audrey was born July 29, 1943, to the late Leigh and Verba (McDaniel) Davis. In 1960, Audrey married Veryl Lambrecht. Audrey devoted her life to her family as a homemaker and helped take care of the farm. She loved all animals and greatly enjoyed birdwatching. Audrey also enjoyed going out to eat and spending time with her friends and family.

Mother Nature shortened the Division 2 and Division 3 state golf meet from 18 holes to nine on June 3. Held at Blackwolf Run Golf Course in Kohler, the meet is a two-day event. After those first nine holes on the first day, Bonduel was in second place at 168, 24 above par. Lena was in sixth place at 180, at 30 above par. The Wildcats were tied with Cochrane-Fountain City. Josh Dreyer led the Bears at 2 over par; he was tied for fourth place.

The effects of a windstorm that blew through northern Oconto County five years ago are still being felt. Much of the damage from the July 2019 storm occurred in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and caused forest officials to issue a temporary closure order that affected several recreation areas — including campgrounds, picnic areas, trails and roads. Veronica Decker scored three goals as Pulaski shut out Watertown 5-0 to win the WIAA regional title June 1. Sarah Johnson and Ellie Mangold each scored a goal for the Red Raiders, who now post a 14-4 overall record. All five goals came in the second half. Sydney Hakes was the goalkeeper, and she made seven saves for Pulaski. Pulaski is scheduled to play at Nicolet on June 6.
